The nominees for next year’s National Television Awards have been announced, and it’s put Piers Morgan in an even more smug mindset than usual.

Piers is currently on the longlist in three categories, including Best Presenter, while ‘Good Morning Britain’ is a contender for Best Daytime Show and ‘Life Stories’ is a potential recipient of the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award.

Surprisingly, his ‘GMB’ co-host Susanna Reid is absent from the Best Presenter longlist, which he definitely wasn’t going to let slide during Tuesday’s live broadcast.

Showbiz reporter Richard Arnold broke the news to Susanna that she wasn’t on the list live on the air, after which a huge laugh erupted from Piers, particularly when he discovered that Ben Shephard had also made the cut.

“Blimey, 43 people are on the longlist for presenter of the year,” Piers said. “Ben Shephard’s made it. No Susanna Reid! That’s brutal!”

However, Piers noted that being nominated would only be a formality, as Ant and Dec have won the presenting award for the last 17 years.

Ant and Dec will win,” he insisted. “Despite Ant not doing a shred of work for the year.”

Piers was referring to the fact Ant is currently on a presenting hiatus, after returning to treatment when he was arrested for drink-driving earlier this year.

Ant’s decision to take time out of the spotlight left his usual co-host Declan Donnelly to fly solo for the final two episodes of ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ and this year’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ live shows, while Holly Willoughby will fill in for him on ‘I’m A Celebrity’ next month.

‘Good Morning Britain’ airs every weekday from 6am on ITV.
